About Kedarkantha Peak Trek

Kedarkantha is a wonderful trek, with pretty campsites and stunning 360-degree views of mountain summits. You will come across snow around 10,000 ft, lying on the forest floor among the pine trees. The route to Sankri is one of the most beautiful drives in the Indian Himalayas. Kedarkantha in winter, the temperature during the day will be around 8-12 degrees and at night, the temperature will drop to -5 to -7 degrees.......

How to reach Sankri village, Uttarakhand?

1. Pre-arranged Transport by Kailashrath Treks

For a hassle-free start, join our shared tempo traveller or cab service from Dehradun Railway Station directly to Sankri.

  1. Departure: 7:00 AM sharp
  2. Cost: ₹ 800 per trekker (one-way)
  3. Duration: ~9–10 hours (200 km)
  4. Sit back, relax, and enjoy the scenic ride through Mussoorie, Purola, and Mori along the Tons River.


2. Private Vehicle

Drive yourself or hire a private taxi for a comfortable and flexible journey.

  1. Route: Dehradun → Mussoorie → Nainbagh → Purola → Mori → Sankri
  2. Distance: ~200 km | Duration: 9–10 hrs
  3. Taxi Cost: ₹6,000–₹7,000 one-way (SUV)

Tip: Start early to enjoy daylight views and avoid hilly night driving.


3. Public Transport

For budget travellers, public buses and shared jeeps are available:

  1. Step 1: Take an early morning bus or shared jeep from Dehradun ISBT to Purola (6–7 hrs).
  2. Step 2: From Purola, board another shared jeep or local bus to Sankri (4 hrs).
  3. Cost: ₹500–₹600 total (approx.)

Note: Services are infrequent and may be affected by weather—start early to ensure same-day arrival.


Things to Carry

  • Trekking shoes : Carry water proof trekking shoes with good grip and ankle support. Do not carry sports shoes.
  • Three layers of warm clothes : Carry two or three-layer jackets, fleece jackets and a padded jacket.
  • Two/Three trek pants : Carry light cotton trek pants. Denim/jeans and shorts are not suitable for trekking.
  • Three t-shirts (collared/dri-fit) : Full sleeved t-shirts that prevent sun burns on the neck and arms. Carry one or two dri-fit t-shirts.
  • Thermals : Carry thermals (top and bottom).
  • Sunglasses : Sunglasses are mandatory. There will be lot of snow on the trek and can cause snow blindness.
  • Cap : At high altitude, the sun is extra harsh so carry a cap to protect yourself.
  • Water proof hand gloves : Carry water proof gloves and avoid woollen gloves as they will get wet if you touch snow.
  • Socks (3-4 pairs) and a pair of woollen socks : Apart from two sports socks, you can take a pair of woollen socks for the night.
  • Headlamp/LED torch : Mandatory
  • Raincoat/Ponchos : At high altitudes, snowfall and rain are quite common and it’s mandatory to carry a poncho so that you don’t get wet. The trek will continue as planned even during rainfall.
  • Lunch box and water bottle : Every participant should have their personal lunch box and a water bottle [insulated type].
  • Toiletries: Keep items like toilet paper, wipes, moisturiser and sunscreen.
  • First Aid Kit: Carry items like few basic medicines, few antiseptics and adhesives.

Itinerary

  1. Your adventure begins with a scenic drive from Dehradun Railway Station to Sankri, a serene village nestled in the Uttarkashi district.
  2. Transport will be arranged at 7 AM sharp. This costs Rs 800 (additional 5% GST) per trekker (one-way) for the journey from Dehradun to Sankri.
  3. The journey to Sankri is very scenic and mesmerizing, with especially the last part in which we pass through Govind life sanctuary.
  4. Once at Sankri, members will undergo the registration process by 5 PM and will attend the briefing for the trek at 6 PM followed by distribution of items like Rucksack, Gaiters, Microspikes and Trekking sticks.
  5. Overnight at Sankri base camp.

Mandatory Documents

  1. Medical Certificate should be signed by a registered MBBS doctor and should have the seal of the doctor.
  2. Original and photocopy of Aadhar card required. In case of Foreign Nationals Passport and Visa would be required.
  3. NOC form with participant signature.
  4. Passport sized photograph - 2 no.

Who can participate ?

Anyone who is above 12 years of age with a good physical strength and stamina can participate in the event. Participants should not have any medical issues like Hypertension, Asthma, Diabetes or breathing problems.

Participants should prepare themselves before participating in the trek such that they are able to jog/brisk walk 5 kms in 40 minutes. Participants with a BMI of 30 and above need to get it below 30 before joining the trek.


Preparation :

Strong physical fitness is a must for any Himalayan Treks. Whenever one is undertaking activities like High Altitude Trekking, make sure that you are preparing yourself for the trek in terms of Aerobic fitness, muscle strength and breathing rhythm.
